On January 10, 2017, Professor Wale Adebanwi, an alumnus of the University of Lagos made history by becoming the first Black African to be appointed to the prestigious Rhodes Professor in Race Relations in the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
Professor Adebanwi holds a BSc. in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, M.Sc. & Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Ibadan and is presently a Professor at the University of California, Davis, United States.

The Rhodes Professorship in Race Relations was established by the Rhodesian Selection Trust Mining Company in 1954. It is named after Cecil Rhodes, British businessman, mining magnet and politician in South Africa who served as Prime Minister of Cape Colony from 1890 – 1896.]]></content:encoded>
